Church St, Eyam, Hope Valley S32 5QH, UK – 01433 630930
Informative about the plague story of Eyam. Plague register plus useful maps and booklets. A peaceful place of worship. Helpful stewards.
The legendary plague village that isolated itself for a year to preserve the surrounding villages. Although the museum is now the focus for those wanting to learn the history, this is the place actually in the history with the graveyard full of the victims of the black death and tributes are still laid to remember the sheer moral strength of the villagers. A quite haunting experience.
1 The Nook, Stoney Middleton, Hope Valley S32 4TU, UK
A 15th Century, octagonal church, slightly off the beaten track... well worth a visit.
The most beautiful church in the Peak. After a fire burnt down the nave a round church was built onto the surviving tower. Lots of light and quietness make this a spiritual place. A church I keep returning to.
